Billy Joe Shaver and Mickey Raphael

Great rockin’ track from Billy Joe, with Eddy on guitar and Mickey Raphael making a guest appearance on harmonica.

A cover of a Hank Williams Jr. song. A good one, too.

Billy Joe Shaver

Billy Joe Shaver is one of the greatest songwriters who ever lived.  It’s that simple.  A devout, humble man, Billy Joe is highly regarded by some of the most successful artists in country music.  His son Eddy was a hugely talented guitar player, who played with his old man for many years.

Not many people know (apparently) that Billy Joe recorded an album with his friends Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings.  It’s so sad to hear Eddy playing with those guys, knowing that he’s not with us any more.

Willie Nelson

I’ve been a fan of Willie Nelson for many years, and I was lucky enough to see him playing the last time he toured the frozen north. If you like Willie’s music, check out Jelmer de Haas’ photos on flickr.

I’ve seen Billy Joe Shaver play in the frozen north too, he did a one-off gig at the Arches in Glasgow a couple of years ago.  These guys are definitely, in the words of Billy Joe, the real deal.  If you don’t know who Billy Joe Shaver is, you can see him right here.

I’ve also got to mention a great Willie Nelson blog I found called Still Is Still Moving.  If you want to know what Willie’s up to just now, that’s the place to find out.
