Judge tells arsonists: you live by our rules

A judge has told three Muslims who attacked a London publisher that if they want to live in the UK, then they have to live according to our rules. He then sentenced each of them to four and a half years in prison.

Ali Beheshti, Abrar Mirza and Abbas Taj had sneaked up to the home of the owner of Gibson Square Publishing, doused his front door in diesel and set it alight. Taj, a minicab driver, then drove the other two away from the scene of their crime.

Mirza is described as a mobile phone salesman, and Beheshti, unemployed, already has a criminal conviction for the attempted murder of his own father. During the Danish cartoon riots, Beheshti was seen waving a banner saying, “Massacre those who insult Islam.”

The book these three wasters objected to is now available, both in the UK and the USA.

  1. Four and a half years seems like a very light sentence for arson. Forty years would be more appropriate to my thinking. This is a very serious crime and should be punished as such. With this short sentence, and with the usual sentence shortening fudges, they will be out in a few months. That is just an invitation to do it all again.

  2. I agree that a real example should have been made of these wasters. It is after all a hate crime, which we’re told is a big no-no. People could have died as a result of it, too. So let’s give each of them their four and a half years, with no possibility of an early release. Four and a half years it is. No reading the Koran permitted when you’re inside – the whole point of being jailed is to have your liberty to do what you want taken away from you. (And if that’s what you want to do, and more to the point that’s what led you to commit your crime in the first place …) No special diets – you eat your bacon butty in the morning or you go hungry. And finally and most importantly, we should get a big strapping Manxman over to give them a dozen lashes with the birch rod on their bare arses the day before they’re released. That’d be a bit more like it. And if they’re ever convicted again, of any crime whatsoever, then everything’s automatically doubled, no questions asked. Prison is supposed to act as a deterrent, after all.
